Personal details
Silke Behrens studied chemistry at the University of Karlsruhe, the École Européenne des Hautes Études des Industries Chimiques de Strasbourg (EHICS, today: École Européenne d’Ingénieurs de Chimie, Polymères et Matériaux), and Emory University, Atlanta. She received her Ph.D. degree on the Synthesis and Crystal Structures of Selenium- and Tellurium-Bridged Cadmium Clusters at the University of Karlsruhe in 1997 and her Habilitation (Venia Legendi in Inorganic Chemistry) at the Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences, Ruprecht-Karls University of Heidelberg, in 2012. In 2021 she was appointed as Professor at the Faculty of Chemistry and Biosciences, KIT. In 1998, she joined the Institute of Technical Chemistry then Institute of Catalysis Research and Technology of the KIT. Her research interests include, among others, the syntheses of novel nanoparticles, functional nanohybrid materials (e.g., ferrofluids, ferronematics) and nanoparticle-based model catalysts to study synthesis-structure-activity relationships in various reactions. She is Member of the Advisory Board of the ProcessNet section Nano- and Mesoscopic Systems (FGr-NMS) of the DECHEMA (Gesellschaft für Chemische Technik und Biotechnologie e.V.).
